Today Sasha Padron, a doula and pre- and post-natal yoga teacher, shared her experiences and knowledge about how we can reframe the concept and experience of childbirth from one of pain and stress to an empowering experience. We discussed the options for birth support (doulas, midwives, etc.), physical and mental practices in the weeks before childbirth and during labour, homebirth and in-hospitral experiences, and more.
This interview audio is 44 minutes’ duration.
Sasha Padron has been attending births as a doula for 24 years. In 1994, she was lured to the world of yoga following the birth of my first son. Soon afterward, she and her doula partner joined forces to create the renowned Yogaspace pre/postnatal program. In 2001, Sasha became sole director of the program and kept it growing both within and beyond Yogaspace ever since. The Centre For Growing Families was born as the program grew and the needs of our community expanded.
Having attended over 750 births, Sasha knows that a strong yoga practice provides women with an incredibly powerful support system as they prepare for birth and motherhood. Over the years, she has strived to bring the wisdom of birth and the teachings of yoga to prenatal yoga classes, birth preparation classes, mentorships for young doulas and mother’s circles.
